Internet Explorer is a cancer

I’ve been complaining for a long time about Internet Explorer. Version 6 currently makes my life a living hell, and version 7 isn’t set to do much about that. Paul Thurrott agrees with me. In fact, he goes further, describing IE as a cancer on the Web that must be stopped, and claiming that the amount of time it’s taken Microsoft to finally start work on IE7 has set back Web development by an immeasurable amount of time.
(Mind you, version 6 has it’s own problems)
Thurrott recommends a complete boycott of Internet Explorer. So do I. Please, please, please … get a better browser.
Internet Explorer is indeed evil, I quite enjoy the banner you’ve put here which I had the pleasure to encounter while browsing the ‘net on the college computers (they’ve not heard of firefox it seems). Although my brother seems to have discovered that your banner doesn’t show up on IE7, something to do with an ‘e’ missing at the end of ‘lt’.

Yeah, Dean Edwards is a genius. The IE7-o-matic is server-side, though, and a real kludge. Brilliantly clever kludge, but kludge nonetheless. I’ve found that it can give a significant slowdown on client-side load times when I’ve used it in the past. Peterned’s “whatever:hover” is a good alternative if all you want is proper support for :hover elements (as has been the case with several sites I’ve designed). It breaks w3c compatibility with a loud cracking sound, but then, so does IE6.
